Southfields' Tiger Pebble Mosaic

Year 1 celebrate their brand new pebble mosaic

We spent 10 days doing a pebble mosaic with the brilliant children from Southfields Primary School in Coventry.

We showed the children some designs, they voted on their favourite, and the winner was a tiger theme (the school's mascot) with a tiger face as its centrepiece.

After transporting the millions of pebbles to Coventry in Tim's reluctant car, we set to work. The children lay out the patterns in sandboxes, following the designs they chose, then we painstakingly transferred them onto the walls.

For the tiger face each pebble had to be the perfect shape, size, and colour, and Tim and the children worked like troopers in the freezing temperatures to have it finished by day five. The project was completed on March 11th to the excitement of us and all of the children involved.

Jim's currently editing our video diary, so that will be up soon. In the meantime you can browse the pictures in the gallery on the right.
